Abstract
The formation of mesoscale hollow spheres of TiO2 and SnO2 ceramics by templating their sol-gel precursor solutions against crystalline arrays of monodisperse polystyrene beads was investigated. The hollow spheres had a well-defined void size that is determined by the diameter of the polystyrene template, and a homogeneous wall whose thickness is mainly controlled by the concentration of the sol-gel precursor solution.
