Abstract

Fully developed laminar flow of a Newtonian fluid in a curved duct is considered. The shape of the duct is the region formed by the natural coordinate surfaces in bipolar toroidal coordinate system. This is useful in studying the effects of distortion in the cross-section of circular and semi-circular coiled tubes. The equations of motion in the stream function-vorticity form are solved numerically using a recently proposed multigrid method and the conventional SOR method. The multigrtid method has been found to be superior. For certain geometrical shapes dual solutions have been found above a critical Dean number. (A)
