Abstract

Pd(II) complexes with diimine ligands initiate cyclization polymerization of isopropylidene diallylmalonate to produce the polymer containing trans 1,2-disubstituted cyclopentane groups and ester groups. The produced polymer is rich in syndiotactic sequence, whereas use of the Pd complexes with C 2-symmetric ligand affords the isotactic polymer. The polymerization of other diallylmalonates and diallylamines also give the corresponding polymers. The reaction of isopropylidene diallylmalonate under ethylene atmosphere affords the copolymers of isopropylidene malonates and ethylene with 3 mol% - 52 mol% of comonomer incorporation. The copolymer with low malonate incorporation is branched. On the other hand, the copolymer with high malonate incorporation is linear.
