Abstract

This paper presents a Lagrange multiplier/fictitious domain method for direct simulation of three dimensional multiphase flow problems involving the Navier-Stokes equations coupled with rigid body equations. A fictitious domain method using Lagrange multipliers is used to enforce the boundary conditions to simulate the flow around a moving rigid body, thus avoiding the need of a body fitted mesh that requires frequent remeshing. It is combined with a second-order characteristic/projection finite element scheme. At the end, the results of a test case are presented.
