Overview

Xi Gao is currently an associate professor of Chemical Engineering at Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. He is a national high-level young talent and Shantou City high-level talent (category A). He obtained BS/MS/PhD from Xiamen University, Zhejiang University, and Iowa State University respectively, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher and later a research scientist at the US Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory.

To meet the major needs of national energy development, he focuses on important scientific problems such as the multi-scale coupling mechanism of transport phenomena, reactions,  external fields in complex multiphase reaction systems, and high-accuracy mathematical model development.  He has conducted in-depth research in the fields of chemical reactor engineering, solid fuel (biomass, coal, plastic, solid waste, etc.) thermochemical conversion technology, microalgae biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing. He led the development of multiple solvers such as SuperDEM in the world-renowned open-source CFD software MFIX (10,000+ users worldwide).

He is the principal investigator for 4 national and provincial projects and participated in 6 national research projects such as the 863 project and the US Department of Energy projects. He holds 1 national invention patent and published about 60 scientific papers in the field of chemical reaction engineering and multiphase flow such as AIChE J., Chem. Eng. Sci., Ind. Eng. Chem. Res., Chem. Eng. J. He served as the guest editor of Ind. Eng. Chem. Res., the youth editorial board member of Carbon Neutrality, and the youth member of the process simulation and simulation professional committee of the Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China. He served as the chair of the international conference sessions several times, gave 30+ invited talks or oral presentations, and was invited to review manuscripts for more than 30 SCI journals. He won the ACS IECR Influential Researcher Award, the Iowa State University Outstanding Research Award, and the Outstanding Reviewer Award from 6 SCI journals. He collaborates closely with researchers for several renowned research institutes, universities, and companies, such as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TU Darmstadt, Politecnico di Milano, Pfizer, Sabic America, Sortacarbo, and so on.
