Amitesh Paul is Technion Senior Research Scientist at the Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He received his PhD in Physics (2002) at the UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research after he graduated at the Indore University, Indore (India). He obtained his Habilitation certificate (2017) at the Technische Universität München, Garching, Germany, which is a preferable criterion for Associate Professor Position in Germany. With over 26 years of research experience in neutron and synchrotron facilities since 1994, he is a leading pioneer in condensed matter physics, principally focusing on neutron and X-ray scattering studies of magnetic properties, nanostructures and multilayers. He has been employed at the Forschungszentrum Jülich Peter Grünberg Institut: Jülich (Germany) as member of the Group of Prof. Peter Grünberg as researcher and instrument responsible; the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie: Berlin (Germany) as researcher and instrument responsible; the Technische Universität München: Garching, Germany as group responsible and Akademischen Rat (pursuing habilitation); and the Centre for Energy Research, Hungarian Academy of Sciences: Budapest, Hungary as Scientific Advisor to the Director General. He was conferred the title Priv.-Doz. (PD) by the Technische Universität München.

His research activities have broadly remained in the area of ​​physics, investigating the magnetic properties of nanostructured materials, heterostructures and layered systems. His current research program primarily focuses on the study of the magnetic properties of nanostructured materials, heterostructures and layered systems and makes extensive use of polarized neutron scattering, grazing incidence small angle neutron and X-ray scattering and absorption techniques. PD Dr. habil. Amitesh Paul published over 100 papers in scientific journals, 1 book chapter and 1 book. He referees manuscripts for many journals; including high profile ones such as Nature Communications and Physical Review Letters. He also reviews beamtime proposals for the Synchrotron Light Research Institute in Thailand and the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Light source in the USA. His collaborators include researchers from Germany, Hungary, Sweden, Thailand, India and the USA. He is regular invitee for lectures at international conferences. He has been successful with research funding applications and co-supervisor for PhD, Masters and Bachelor students while working at the Technische Universität München.

  • Proximity effects, e.g. exchange bias and superconductor-ferromagnetic oxides
  • Magnetization kinetics leading to interaction between nanoparticles
  • Self-diffusion kinetics for isotopic materials
  • Magnetic oxide heterostructures and interfacial engineering
