Abstract
A methodology is presented for elucidating the functional features of the isothermal rate expression from an analysis of the multiplicity features of nonisothermal experiments. The necessary kinetic features are predicted from an analysis of either a bifurcation diagram (dependence of surface temperature on bulk temperature or concentration) or a bifurcation map (dependence of ignition and extinction points on two operating conditions). The methodology is illustrated by the analysis of several published nonisothermal bifurcation diagrams to gain information about the functional form of an isothermal rate expression, which can describe the observed data.
